We have held three regular meetings since our last report. This includes our annual meeting on April 26, 2014 where we elected new officers and discussed and voted on competition rules changes.
We continue to recruit new Lions for our club and, since April, have added four new members through participation in road racing and autocross racing. We are excited about expanding our club!
The majority of our recent efforts have been related to planning and operating for our two annual road race events at the Tanacross airfield in Tok, AK. Dates for the first event will were May 24-25, 2014 (Memorial Day weekend) and the second event will be held August 30-31, 2014 (Labor Day weekend). There were participants for the May event and we expect an equally good turnout for the August event. Volunteers and spectators are welcome and encouraged at these events. There is free camping available on-site. A portion of the proceeds for this event will be donated to a local charity.
Related to our road racing events, we held a tech inspection meeting and barbecue at Underground Performance on May 17. The shop space was donated by Lion Nick Dallaportas and food was donated by Lion Chris Woodward. Donations were collected
and given to Beacon Hill.
We have also focused some of our energy on planning and co-hosting autocross racing events with another local club, Sub Zero Motorsports. Several of our members are also members of Sub Zero and a combined effort made sense to us. We have held two events so far (June 8 and June 29) with a total of 64 participants. A portion of the proceeds for this event will be donated to a local charity.
Speaking of local charities, a portion of the proceeds from our ice racing events were used to purchase pet food which was donated to the Alaska SPCA on May 3rd. Petco assisted our club with discounted prices and the total value given to SPCA was nearly $900.
