Recycling used eyeglasses is a common affair among Lions around the world.  What makes us unique…. I think…. is that we don’t do it alone.  In Juneau, the two Juneau Lions Clubs — the Juneau Lions Club and the Juneau Mendenhall Flying Lions Cl ub — make up the Joint Sight Conservation Committee, aka Joint Sight Committee and we do it together!

We have collection boxes set up throughout Juneau, at all eyeglass locations, where we collect used eyeglasses throughout the year.  Last year was our 1st Annual Recycle for Sight drive, where we ask the community to bring their eyeglasses to us at a designated time and place and felt it was a great success.  We collected 66 pair of eyeglasses.

This annual event is taking place again this year on Saturday, October 25, at the Nugget Mall from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. IN CONJUNCTION with White Cane Day.  We’ll have volunteers spreading the word about blindness and collecting eye glasses.    Click HERE for the article that was published in the Juneau Empire on October 19, 2014.
