My club has been very busy since the last cabinet meeting. we are in the middle of our busy
Split the Pot season. With the opening of the new Alaska Airlines Sports Center our club is
spread across Anchorage doing sports events now from Mulcahey Field to the Syms of East and West and Bartlett to the Wells Fargo Center to the Sullivan Arena to the Alaska Airlines Sports Center.
It has been non-stop since the last Cabinet meeting starting with the GCI Great Alaska Shootout Basketball Tournament on Thanksgiving week. we continue to do split the Pot at UAA Hockey, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball and Women’s Volleyball along with the High School Sports tournaments. The funds realized from these events will fund our high school scholarship program and our UAA Legacy sponsorship as the charities we donate to.
Our club’s current membership stands at 38. on March 30, 2014 we celebrated 30 years as a Lions club.
The month of January has been especially hard for the Benton Bay Lions and the Lions of
District 49A. We lost 2 of our most favored members, Lion Pete Hupperten and Lion Ric Rapp.
Our club’s youth scholarship fund has been renamed the Benton Bay Peter G Hupperten
Athletic Scholarship Fund in Pete’s honor.
Respectively Submitted in Lionism,
PDG Esther L. West
