Copper River Basin Lions Club Report
Complied by President Doug Vollman
The Copper River Basin Lions Club currently has 38 members. This year’s officers include President Doug Vollman, Vice President Jim Horrell, Secretary Lisa Yoshimoto, Treasurer/Membership Chairman Billy Williams Jr., Leo’s Advisor Marianne Williams.
On January 20th, District Governor Cindy Beardsley, her husband Dave, and Zone 6 Chairman Sherie Vieira visited the Copper River Basin Lions Club. A potluck was held in their honor with about 15 people attending. Gov. Cindy was able to initiate several new members including a new Leo.
We recently have finalized the transfer of the Florence Clayton Trust to our club. Thanks to the persistent, hard work of a few club members, we will be able to fulfill Florence Clayton’s dream of a park and playground in downtown Glennallen. Our goal is to build a clubhouse on the Clayton site across from Parks Place/IGA on the Glenn Highway.
We continue to support our local school sports teams and local youth activities, most recently the Kenny Lake High School Girl’s Volleyball team and the Copper River Revenge USA Hockey teams. We sponsored 10 children for our local Project Santa Claus, a program that ensures Christmas gifts for families that may be struggling this winter.
Our annual holiday dinner baskets were distributed for Thanksgiving and then again at Christmas. In all, we gave away 15 complete turkey dinner baskets with all the trimming for each holiday.
