Volunteer Highlights:
Palmer High School Sports: Our club volunteers to take “gate” for out local high school sports programs – Hockey, Wrestling, and Basketball. We enjoy watching the games in the process☺
Colony Christmas: We had a big, noisy crowd come to enjoy our “All You Can Eat” breakfast buffet and especially Lion June Oberg’s cinnamon rolls and sticky buns. It’s always great to be able to visit with community members in a very relaxed setting and enjoy the holidays.
Santa Cop & Heroes Program: Members helped gift wrap many gifts for elderly “shut ins” – gifts were delivered, with a meal, by the valley State Troopers, Palmer & Wasilla Police, EMTS, etc and their families. We give kudos to Lion Donna Anthony for all her hard work with this program.
Special Santa Program: Our Lion Mari Jo Parks, Chief Elf, did it again! She was able to round up her elves and provide a very Merry Christmas for over 3500 special kids in the valley this year. There was much buying, sorting, wrapping, and giving during December and many children were able to enjoy Christmas thanks to Santa’s elves.
Upcoming Events:
Gun Show: We will be hosting our 48th Annual Gun Show on March 7th & 8th at Raven Hall at the Alaska State Fair. We have been busy since Dec sending and processing vendor applications, “getting the word out” through various media, and gearing up the set up, working the gun show, and tearing it all down at the end. We have the help of various athletic groups to do the heavy lifting during set up and take down☺ This year we will be the second year for the Arts and Crafts Show in Hoskins Bldg.
Cinnamon Roll Fundraiser: Lion Carol Kenley is heading up the baking crew for a new fundraiser for our club in April. She will be taking orders for Cinnamon Rolls and will deliver on a set date. Last year was a great success and we are anxious to see if we can keep this as an annual fundraiser. Everybody loves cinnamon rolls!
Scholarships: We will be awarding 4 scholarships to Palmer and Colony High and Pathways Seniors to help them further their education.
Palmer High Grad Blast: In the past club members have volunteered as chefs to cook hot dogs and hamburgers to feed the hungry graduates as they “party into the wee hours of the morning”. We also “donate to the cause” to help purchase prizes for the kids that show up.
