The Spenard Lions Club continues to be busy with vision screening in the Anchorage School District’s elementary schools. We have just a couple of elementary school remaining to screen and then we will be finished for this school year. It is always our pleasure to screen these children.
Currently we are in good standing with both Lions Clubs International & our district. Our current membership count remains at 34.
Since the last cabinet meeting we have been very generous to the following requests ‐ we made a generous donation to LCIF for Melvin Jones fellowships ‐ matching funds to the Salvation Army for our annual bell ringing at the Fred Meyer store on Northern Lights Boulevard ‐ a donation to the American Diabetes Association for the “family link” event for
children with diabetes Christmas party at the Imaginarium ‐ also funds were given for the Diabetes camp tee shirts again this year and also Boy Scout Troop 8 who have assisted us in keeping our grounds maintenance under control.
In December our annual Christmas party was held at the Sea Galley and almost everyone had a good time. The party was organized by Lions Yvonne & Darnell Little and we thank them for a job well done!
Lion Alice coordinated the New Concepts Christmas event again this year. Our club treats the residents to a pizza party & lots of gifts for each resident ‐ International Air Crossroads Lions club started this annual activity many years ago and Lions Alice asked our club to keep the tradition alive!
Spenard Lions was a sponsor for Miss Annaleisa Kress who won the Miss Anchorage Outstanding Teen pageant! Scholarships are presented to the winner!
A substantial donation was given to Lutheran Social Services of Alaska to help fund the purchase of their new scale. All food is weighed coming into the facility and now we are required to weigh all outgoing food as well.
We also made a donation to the new Mabuhay Leos club ‐ to help offset some of their start‐up costs.
The big news for January………………the Spenard Lions Club has a new home!! Located on 32nd Avenue in Spenard that is between Minnesota Drive and Spenard Road! Renovations will be done in order to use the house to its fullest ‐ stay tuned for further updates!
Speaking of the new building ‐ all Lions’ items being stored in our present clubhouse basement need to be picked up no later March 31st ‐
2015 ‐ unclaimed items will be discarded. Contact our club at 248‐0832 for pickup information. The only club thus far to reclaim their items is Benton Bay Athletics Lions Club ‐ thank you for responding.
